The Brodhead City Council will ask residents if taxes should increase to help departments meet growing cost concerns. Council has proposed an increase to the levy of $200,000 for five years. The increase would start in 2023. For a home valued at $100,000, Green County residents would see an increase of $120. Rock County residents would see an increase of $117.
By raising the tax levy, City departments will be able to maintain current levels of service. Most department budget requests have been cut in the last two years. The proposed increase would help prevent future cuts that will greatly affect the quality-of-service City departments can provide. More information on how cuts might affect services will be published next week.
City Council asks you to vote on this question. The referendum question is available to review at City Hall, Brodhead Memorial Public Library, and on the City’s website. Residents can vote in-person on February 15 from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at City Hall, 1111 2nd Ave. Absentee and early voting options are also available. Contact City Hall at (608) 897-4018.
